Lawn care can be a year long effort; its difficult to remember everything to make it easier with a lawn care calendar. Mark off in your calendar the care that needs to be taken of the lawn each and every month. This way, you wont miss anything and you have the best chance of producing a healthy green lawn. Although there are many established lawn calendars available you may want to customize a plan specifically for the care of your own lawn. The care of a lawn tends to take a lot of time, effort and planning and a calendar is just one way of making it a little simpler.
Care and Maintenance of a Lawn with the Help of a Calendar
The care of a lawn can be aided using a simple calendar method of remembering when and where things have to be done. The times can vary depending on your location and weather issues so make it personal and fill out your own calendar based on your individual plan. The calendar year involving the care of a lawn usually starts out in March when it is time to prepare the soil for new growth. Raking the soil warms up and refreshes everything while allowing the gardener to look for moles. Some prefer to do a soil test at this time and use herbicides if necessary. Seeding can be overdone in certain places if there were thin areas last time around. In April, mowing can be beginning as can the removal of any diseased clippings. The soil may also need to be aerated. The calendar then turns to the care of the lawn that is necessary in May which is generally fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides if and when needed.
Watering begins in June; take care that this calendar month does not involve to little or too much water on the lawn. Mowing height can be increased if the grass area is thin; likewise the frequency can be increased if the lawn is growing quickly. The same can be said for July which may need more water than before. Watching out for grubs is a good tip. In August, it is time to prepare the soil for fall seeding while continuing the watering and watching out for insects. A soil test may again be necessary as you buy more seed and fertilizer. September is time to fertilize again and to plant new grass seeds while ensuring that the soil is kept moist. Aeration and raking, weed killing and over seeding thin spots may also be necessary. October and November requires mowing until the growth has stopped and apply lime if necessary. Fertilizer may again be necessary and clearing leaves is important throughout the late fall and winter.
