They get their name from their small dollar-like shape however this is not always the case, because they can actually start off being the size of a grapefruit. Good lawn care ensures proper watering of the grass neither in excess of requirement nor in any place other than the lawn, such as the sidewalk. Once you have found the right type of grass to grown on your lawn, make sure that you sow your grass at the right time of the year. Pet owners think that all lawn care products are pesticides and pose a health threat to their pets. Frequent, shallow watering encourages thatch (grass propagates with above-soil runners, rather than rhizomes under the soil). One of the most difficult tasks when it comes to caring for your lawn is dealing with animals such as moles and voles. A lawn is a delicate balance of life processes in constant flux.

Dealing With Lawn Care Problems

There are always certain lawn care problems that you are going to experience, and although there are no real surefire ways to prevent these lawn care problems from occurring, there are methods of treatment available that you can use in order to treat and control the problems.

The Most Common Lawn Care Problems

One of the most common problems that you will experience with your lawn is the brown patch. These brown patches are most common to certain types of grass, such as Bermuda, Kentucky Bluegrass, Bent Grass and St. Augustine. They will typically start as small spots on your lawn and then will quickly begin spreading outwards in a circular or horseshoe pattern.

Dollar spots are also incredibly common, and are quite similar to brown patches. They get their name from their small dollar-like shape however this is not always the case, because they can actually start off being the size of a grapefruit. Dollar spots usually look brown or straw colored, and they may merge to form large patches that can be up to several feet wide.

Rust is one of the most major lawn care problems, and this problem gets its name from the orange rustic looking appearance that it gives the grass leaf blades. Rust tends to flourish in conditions of morning dew, shade, high soil compaction and low fertility, and the best way that you can go about checking for rust is by taking a white tissue or paper towel and rubbing it against a few blades of grass. If an orange color remains, then this usually means that it is rust.

Another of the most commonly experienced lawn care problems is slime mold. Similar to powdery mildew, slime mold tends to cover grass, with a sort of powdery covering that almost looks like crystallized frost. Slime mold feeds on decaying organic matter that is found in the soil, and as this powdery covering increases and becomes thicker, it reduces the light that is able to reach the plant cells, thus causing them to yellow and eventually die.

By understanding about the most common lawn care problems, you will really be able to take much better care of your lawn in general, and so not only will you be working towards preventing problems as much as possible but as well if something were to go wrong with your lawn, such as the infestation of mold or disease, you will already be armed with the knowledge and be aware of what you have to do in order to take care of the situation as immediately as possible.
